Take the #GivingDrewDay Challenge!

Last year, more than 45,000 organizations in 71 countries came together to celebrate #GivingTuesday. Since its founding in 2012, #GivingTuesday has inspired giving around the world, resulting in greater donations, volunteer hours, and activities that bring about real change in communities. We invite you to join the movement and to help get out and give today (and every day!)

 

Drew students, families, and faculty have come together this year to address many needs in the greater community.  Below are some of the organizations we’ve supported through DrewServ and our Social Entrepreneurship class. Please click through for more information as we think about those in need this winter.

 

 

Students collected new underwear and socks, jeans and flannels, toys and gift cards for the 28 employees (and their families which include 21 children under 10 years old) of a grocery store that burned to the ground in Paradise, Butte County. Students will additionally collect for Cal Fire firefighters and their families through the IAFF Disaster Relief Fund.

 

DrewServe has been learning about the work of the Thirst Project, and we hosted two of their youth outreach team members in September. The club is looking into ways to support their efforts as well.

  

DrewServe Club raised money for the annual Walk to End Alzheimer's in San Francisco on November 10, with several club members attending the walk and more than $100 in proceeds from the bake sale at Drew donated to this important cause. 

 

 

Students collaborated with the Board of our community partner (and home court gym!) Booker T. Washington Community Service Center to brainstorm, create and present several options for our local community center’s marketing campaign. Next up? The Changemaker assignment tasking students to, in groups, select an issue facing the world and develop a solution based on the question "What is a problem in the world and how should we fix it?" The topics selected by the groups include equity in education and animal testing rights, and students are swiftly at work researching and developing ideas based on empathetic design thinking strategies.
