Drew's varsity tennis team began their season with an impressive win versus Galileo.
The Drew Dragons began their season with a big team win versus Galileo Academy of Science and Technology with a score of 4-1 at Golden Gate Courts. With a team filled with new faces eager to prove themselves and returning veterans determined to improve from last season, this first match was not without some degree of pressure. Standout performances came from newcomer to the varsity team, Lotus Belle-Glover, who dispatched her 3rd singles opponent 6-1, 6-1. Returning to 1st doubles, seniors Kate Zirulnik and Amber Vidal showed excellent skill in their win 6-0, 6-1. At second singles, returning junior Cara Fishman bested her opponent 6-3, 6-4. At second doubles, senior captain Alex Tremblay-McGaw and new-to-varsity Bella Frost used a high-energy performance to beat their opponent 6-0, 6-2. Coach Ian Livie credited solid preparation for the win. "We came ready to play today after an off-season where so many of our player spent significant time working hard to improve to better themselves and their team." said Coach Livie. "We played hard today and we were rewarded with a pretty impressive victory." Up next, the Dragons will take to the road to face Crystal Springs on Thursday afternoon.
