Letter Writing

Students in Mr. Thayer’s Letter Writing Experiential Elective find their voice through an exploration of the age-old art of letter writing.

Before mobile phones and the internet, correspondence was slow and deliberate. Students discover Discover Frida Kahlo's love for Diego Rivera, read the letters of an obscure Vincent Van Gogh to his brother, and see how the FBI tried to subvert the civil rights movement by sending anonymous letters to Dr. King. Then, students put pen to paper and craft their own letters to people in their lives—be it a relative, a government representative, or a pen pal.
