MarComms Intern Lizzie S. With 16 Bay Area and 5 overnight programs, students will explore topics ranging from animation at the Walt Disney Family Museum to criminal justice reform in Philadelphia. These immersive learning experiences are set to challenge students' perspectives and deepen their understanding of the world.
An exciting event on the horizon and current topic of conversation for Drew students is DEALL week, which takes place the first week of April. DEALL is a full school week dedicated to an experiential course of learning outside the classroom. While each program has unique learning objectives, they are all centered around the Drew values of communication, global perspective, and critical thinking. In the catalog this year are 16 Bay Area programs and 5 overnight programs that students have already chosen and now eagerly await taking part in this April. Keep reading to learn more about some of these programs!
Animation Experience
This DEALL program asks the guiding question: How can I use animation to create a story? In Animation Experience, students will learn foundational skills of 2D animation through an intensive studio experience at the Walt Disney Family Museum. Students will create their own short piece, pulling inspiration from rare original Disney art and cartoons.
Melting Spots
Melting Spots will adventure across San Francisco to try a range of cuisines from around the globe. This program explores how immigration has shaped San Francisco’s food scene. Students will research new dishes, speak to local chefs, and even cook their own meals to learn about the role food plays in culture and identity.
Philadelphia: Prison Reform and Criminal Justice
The Philadelphia DEALL trip is for students interested in learning about the United States criminal justice system. Students will speak with and learn from activists and organizations who advocate for criminal justice reform, in addition to visiting historical sites such as Independence Hall and the Eastern State Penitentiary.
Marine Science in Monterey Bay
For students who love and want to protect the ocean, this DEALL asks the essential question: How are we connected to the ocean? Students will learn about and explore ocean conservation, ecosystem threats, and sustainable solutions. They will also get to see marine wildlife up close when snorkeling, kayaking, and whale watching along the beautiful Monterey Bay coastline.
Bay Area Jazz
The Bay Area Jazz DEALL will be visiting 4 or 5 different music venues to experience the jazz club atmosphere and live music from local musicians. Students in this program will explore the history of Bay Area jazz and the many aspects of a music venue that come together to create a lively and successful environment.
