In her virtual visit to a class of Mary Kerr’s Marine Biology students, marine biologist Shannon Murphy '11 talked about her current research as it relates to what the students have been learning, and her journey after Drew: her studies, internships, and entrance into the professional field, as well as important lessons learned and practices she developed along the way.
In her current position with Conservation International, she is a leader in her field, working on large-scale marine management solutions that benefit both people and nature. Shannon leads the organization's Seascapes program which focuses on how we can balance the protection of nature and sustainable use and production of our coasts and oceans. The Seascapes approach builds coalitions along government, civil society and the private sector to improve ocean governance at all scales, working with multiple sectors to maintain healthy ecosystems for people.
