Marjorie McMorris
Marjorie is the Founder and Board Chair of The Helix School located in San Rafael. For the past seven years, Helix has been Marjorie’s primary focus as she hopes to disrupt the way that children with special needs are educated in California. Marjorie started school for her son, who was diagnosed with autism when he was two years old. Before starting Helix, Marjorie worked at Goldman Sachs in the Human Resources Department supporting Goldman’s diversity initiative for their undergraduate and graduate positions. She then moved to lateral hiring with a focus on DEI.
Marjorie was previously on the board of Star Academy, a school for children with learning differences in San Rafael. She was also on the Autism Center of Northern California board, an organization that supports families with children on the spectrum.
Marjorie was drawn to Drew's mission of knowing and understand teenagers. She hopes that her experience of starting a school and her work at Goldman concerning DEI work can be an asset to Drew.
Marjorie graduated from Spelman College with a BA degree in child development. Her son, Ryan, is currently a freshman at Southern Methodist University. Her youngest son Kyle attends The Helix School and loves horseback riding and playing the piano. Her husband Marc races sailboats competitively. As a family, they enjoy traveling and spending time with their relatives on the east coast.
