Patrick McNerney

Patrick McNerney is the president and visionary behind the design, construction, and development firm, Martin Building Company. Since founding the company in 1989, he has applied his 40 years of professional design-build experience and passion for outstanding design and construction to develop more than 30 new or historically significant buildings in San Francisco. Patrick was an early leader in the revitalization of the city’s Mid-Market district and was a substantial participant in establishing SOMA and Dogpatch as vibrant urban neighborhoods. His notable developments include Mint Plaza, the first voluntary downtown street-to-plaza conversion completed by a developer in San Francisco, and mixed-use developments such as Potrero Launch, Arc Light Co. and the Mint Collection.

Patrick deeply appreciates Drew’s strong and empathetic community, and its commitment to progressive education that supports and nurtures the individual talents and strengths of each student. In addition to bringing high-level design and planning expertise to the Drew board, Patrick recognizes it is his role to support the school and by extension, his children, and to give back through active participation in the community.

Patrick is a broker member of the National Association of Realtors and California Associations of Realtors and serves as board President of the Urban Preservation Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the historic and neighborhood revitalization of San Francisco’s Mid-Market district through urban renewal, preservation and management.  Previously, Patrick was a Board Member at San Francisco Architectural Heritage and advisor for the Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Center. He also recently served on the Site Committee at The Sterne School where he led the transformation of the school’s underutilized lower-level space to develop a state-of-the art performing and visual arts facility and athletic center.

Patrick holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He and his wife, Jennifer live in Tiburon with their two children, Ryder (Drew class of ’27) and Kasen (Drew class of 28’). As a family, they love to travel as much as possible, spend time with friends, and enjoy almost any activity on, in or near the water.
